Which electric scooter should I get for my six year old?

Electric Scooters are a fun way to get around. Children love the feeling they get when they twist the throttle and the scooter whisks them away. But as a parent, which electric scooter is right for your child?

When determining which electric scooter is best for your child, you need to think about how the scooter will be used, as well as the terrain that the scooter will be used on. Parents also need to be informed about the different types of electric scooters that are available for their children and we are here to help better educate you so that you can select the right electric scooter without costing you a fortune.

Most parents will make their decision based on the power of the scooter. As this is an important factor, the types of wheels on the scooter should play an important part in your decision making.

Wheels on the scooters that are designed for the younger children come in three varieties.
    1. Solid-Soft Rubber
    2. Solid-Hard Rubber
    3. Pneumatic

The entry-level scooters predominately come with the solid-soft rubber wheels. These types of wheel will provide a smooth, comfortable ride as long as they do not get chewed up by the pavement. These wheels are predominately found on the one-hundred watt and below electric scooters.

The biggest disadvantage to these wheels is that they tend to get chewed up on the roads and the uneven sidewalks. The more weight that is put on these wheels, the easier that it is to chew them up and parents could find themselves replacing the wheels often.

For these scooters, manufacturers and dealers alike will advertise the max weight for these scooters as being able to carry up to one-hundred + pounds. Though the motor can handle these weights, it is our recommendation that these scooters not be purchased for children over sixty pounds.

A step up from the one-hundred watt electric scooters are the one-hundred-forty watt scooters. These scooters will usually have the Solid-Hard rubber wheels. These wheels will last quite a bit longer, but still have the tendency to get chewed up over time.

The drawback with these wheels is that with the hard wheel, the rider can feel every little bump in the road, therefore providing a much rougher ride.

For the one-hundred-forty watt scooters, though the max weight is listed as high as one-hundred-eighty pounds, we do not recommend it for more than one hundred-ten pounds. It will last longer if you stick to this guideline.

For the best ride and longest lasting kids electric scooter, you need to step up to the two-hundred-fifty watt electric scooters. The two-hundred-fifty watt scooters is where you start with the pneumatic tires. The pneumatic tires consist of a rubber tire with an inner-tube. This provides a much smoother ride, more inadvertent suspension that allows you to travel without the feeling of running over rocks and dirt. These scooters are on the cusp of entry level and will grow with your child.

The two-hundred-fifty watt electric scooters can easily handle weights up through one-hundred and eighty pounds. Though manufacturer claims much more, we recommend this range in order to fully maximize the power of the motor.
